Official opening of the new STEM building of San Diego State University at Ilia State University Campus

On June 4, 2019 was held official opening of the new STEM building of San Diego State University at Ilia State University Campus. Construction of the SDSU’s new campus started in June 2017. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Adela de la Torre, 9th permanent President, San Diego State University, Dr. Giga Zedania, Rector, Ilia State University, Ms. Elizabeth Rood, Charge d’Affaires, U.S. Embassy in Georgia, Mr. Anthony Welcher, Vice President, Millennium Challenge Corporation, Ms. Magda Magradze, CEO, Millennium Challenge Account Georgia.

Four-storey 4,600 sq. m building of the educational institution is located close to the Vake Park on Cholokashvili Street in Tbilisi’s prime location. The campus is being built within the frames of the partnership between SDSU-Georgia and Ilia State University. The construction of concrete shell is funded by the Ilia State University and fitting out is funded by the U.S. Government through the Second Compact of the Millennium Challenge Corporation. The building is equipped with modern and state-of-the-art labs. The building will serve SDSU-Georgia and Ilia State University students, mainly in electrical and civil engineering.
