Virtual Capstone Showcase Was a Big Success!

On May 29th, 2020, SDSU Georgia hosted a Virtual Capstone Showcase via Zoom. Capstone Projects, like the Georgian Diploma Projects, represent the crowning achievement of a student’s academic career. It gives students an opportunity to demonstrate their technical skills, along with their ability to learn, improvise, and collaborate.

Because of the restrictions on gatherings imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Capstone Showcase was moved to a virtual medium. Nonetheless, the event was a big success, with over 50 organizations joining digitally to see students present the projects and prototypes they spent the year working on.

This year there were six Capstone Projects presented. Two of the projects were sponsored by businesses, giving students the opportunity to work with private sector mentors as they came up with creative solutions to real-world problems facing the industries. Other groups worked with a faculty mentor.

The goal of the Capstone Projects is to give students an opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have learned over their undergraduate career and to give them practical experience in taking a product through the full process of problem analysis, planning, designing, testing, and ultimately producing a functional prototype.
